Abstract
Over the past three decades, Thailand has emerged as a leader in science education for gifted students, beginning with the Development and Promotion of Science and Technology (DPST) program. This initiative laid the foundation for Mahidol Wittayanusorn School (MWIT), the first specialized public high school for gifted students in science and mathematics. MWIT’s pioneering approach, characterized by a specialized curriculum, integration of research, and a supportive learning environment, has set a benchmark for subsequent institutions, including the Princess Chulabhorn Science High Schools (PCSHS).
This paper examines the evolution of these programs, drawing lessons from MWIT’s innovative strategies and their impact on the educational landscape. The success of these pioneering institutions has not only shaped the development of gifted education in Thailand but has also provided a framework for future advancements. As Thailand continues to refine its educational policies, the experiences of DPST, MWIT, and PCSHS offer valuable insights into fostering the growth of gifted students and the ongoing evolution of science education in the country.
