Academy of Talents as an Educational Ecosystem for Identifying and Supporting Gifted Children

Abstract

The period of 2020-2021 has become a challenging time for education all over the world. The Academy of Talents faced the need to revise the formats and content of educational activities, to accept the harsh conditions of the new digital reality and remote interaction with children and adults. The new reality in which the education system finds itself has actualized the goal of the Academy of Talents. That is to create in St. Petersburg an open modern educational ecosystem that brings together the best representatives of higher education organizations, schools, creative and business communities for high-quality identification, and support of gifted students. Cooperation with representatives of the Board of Trustees and Expert Council is strategically important for the Academy. This interaction makes it possible to integrate the educational, cultural, scientific, sports resources of St. Petersburg in the most efficient way. The priority idea for the creative self-realization of students is to work on socially significant tasks. For this purpose, pupils of the Academy of Talents are involved in joint projects with universities, museums, and cultural venues in the city. The constantly expanding network of social partnership allows us to solve an important pedagogical problem: to combine art with science, science with sport, and sport with art. For modern education, it is important to synthesize ideas from various fields, to discover unobvious connections. A person of the present and future must be receptive and open to new things. The future education needs to be based on the integration of knowledge and the involvement of students, closely intertwining learning with the real world and its problems. An effective learning environment builds on collaboration with family and community, higher education, business and schools. Such an educational environment resembles a living ecosystem of knowledge. Following to the concept of open education and strategically developing as an educational ecosystem with our own resource base, we see ourselves as a platform for educational cooperation between representatives of schools, higher education organizations and business communities. The basic benchmark for the strategic development of the institution is the high quality standards of education set by the Sirius Educational Center. Using the model “Science”, “Art” and “Sport” of the educational foundation “Talent and Success” in our work, we believe that a modern person should be open to different ways of knowing the world. We are increasingly talking about machine learning, about artificial intelligence, which means that the requirements for a person, his skills, abilities, personality, will only grow.
