Abstract

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the way of teaching has changed drastically around the world, including the Institute of Science at Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Here, I would like to talk about the SUT project called “SUT Science and Math Learning Space” whose objectives are to support education for both pre-college and post college contents. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we try to turn this crisis to opportunities by moving certain aspects to be borderless. One of the focuses is the program under the Promotion of Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra (POSN) where SUT (one of the 16 regional centers) has been teaching POSN students on the 4 subjects: physics, biology, chemistry, and computer science. The initial pain point was that every year there would be around 4000-6000 students who applied to this POSN program, but we could accommodate only around 160 students leaving many thousands behind. In this talk, I will discuss how we set up an online platform as “social network for education” and combine local forces to make suitable contents. This will not only be able to accommodate the 4000-6000 students but can expand to other students in Thailand while maintaining the yearly budget to be approximately the same.
