Deputy Minister of Education Discussed Implementation of the Country Reform on Education Policy with OEC Executives
Yesterday (March 9, 2020), the Deputy Minister of Education (Dr. Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich) invited the executives of the Office of the Education Council led by the Secretary-General of the Education Council (Dr. Suphat Champatong) to the meeting for discussion with the consultation team members at the Ministry of Education.
The objective of the meeting is to coordinate the policies and push forward the mission of the Office of the Education Council to meet successful and concrete results. In so doing, OEC, as an agency under the supervision of the Deputy Minister of Education (Dr. Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich), will have acceptable lead agency as Kongbeng (Zhuge Liang) of the Ministry of Education.
In the meeting, there was a discussion for accelerating OEC’s activities, including implementation of the education reform in line with the Country Reform Plan on Education and early childhood development. As for the early childhood development, the meeting found that despite of its importance as indicated in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, article 54, the budget allocation for early childhood development from the government is much lower than the secondary education. The staff allocation for supporting OEC’s work to launch early childhood as a national agenda was raised in the meeting as well.
In addition, there was discussion about the structure of the Ministry of Education to respond to the education reform as indicated in the draft of new National Education Act. The transformation of OEC to the Office of the Education Policy Commission as well as the mission of OEC such as the National Education Standards, the revision of the National Scheme of Education, researches, and etc. were also discussed.
The consultation team of the Deputy Minister of Education led by Prof. Sriracha Wongsarayangkoon will attend the meeting with OEC executives 2-3 times a month in the first phase and then once a month in the second phase.
